When Patrick Witty couldn’t bear to watch any more victims fall from the Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2001, he turned around and looked at his fellow witnesses on the corner of Park Row and Beekman Street
At that moment, as the towers were going down, he captured an image that says it all — a group of people expressing horror and disbelief. More than a decade later, Witty decided to attempt to identify the people in his photo using social media.
As the international picture editor of TIME, Witty has a sizable following on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. On Sept. 11 this year, he posted the photo on all three networks, in addition to Time LightBox
