With instant streaming services like Netflix on the rise, it’s easy to forget that many of us began our home movie-watching careers by going to rental stores like Blockbuster and taking home a physical DVD or, even more unthinkable, a VHS.
However, with the announcement that Blockbuster is closing almost all of its remaining stores in the United States, it seems like the days of an old-fashioned movie night are a thing of the past. Blockbuster will now embrace the “if you can’t beat them, join them” mantra and move to a streaming-only model.
