Facebook began rolling out one of its most monumental upgrades two days ago, as revolutionary in its own way as the Like button. But most longterm observers of the social network missed its true significance
The upgrade came in the form of a little grey button that looks humble, but is branded with the most pivotal action a human can take: Ask. Because of that button, people will marry, babies will be born, lives will be irrevocably altered, empires will rise and fall. It sounds crazy, but stay with me here
Facebook has such a mind-bogglingly large number of active monthly users, 1.3 billion, that almost any significant new feature to the service has the potential for tremendous ripple effects on the population of the planet — especially when that feature has to do with the most fundamental relationships we can possibly have with each other.
